It is increasingly common to hold your wedding proceedings in a far-flung location. Let’s face it, having your wedding in an exotic destination makes it much more likely that the weather will be good and it’s much more impressive than the local wedding venue. Going abroad to get married also means that you can combine your nuptials with your honeymoon. However, if you are going to have your wedding in another country, there are many things you must consider, and you will probably need to do more planning, to ensure everything goes without a hitch.
Here are some pointers for ensuring your overseas wedding is a success:
Allow enough time for the paperwork
Often, you will have to complete extra paperwork if you are getting married overseas. So, you will need to allow plenty of time to get the marriage documents sorted before flying off to say I do. In most cases, 6 months should be enough, but make sure you check with the country you’re planning to marry in before making any arrangements.
Send save the date cards sooner rather than later
If you want family and friends to join you for your nuptials, and you’re having your wedding overseas, you will need to send save the date cards the second you know when the big day will be because it may be more difficult for family to arrange time off and flights if you leave it too late.
Check out the venue
There are lots of exotic wedding venues all over the world, but unless you have visited them yourself, or at the very least checked up on them online, you can never be sure that they will be quite as amazing as they claim. So, if it is at all possible, try to visit the venue and check it out before your wedding, or at the very least check out as many reviews of the place as possible. You don’t want your wedding day to be a big disappointment, after all!
Choose your dress carefully
The last thing you want is to be standing on a tropical beach in a big poufy wedding dress that’s causing you to sweat buckets and look awful in your makeup, so be sure to tailor your choice of wedding outfit to the location and the likely weather conditions of your chosen destination.
Choose the right time to marry
Speaking of weather, you should also try to book your wedding to coincide with the best weather seasons of the country you’re visiting. So, if you like sun, be sure not to book in rainy season, to avoid disappointment!
Above all else, you should take the time to relax and enjoy the experience of planning your wedding. Although the stereotype of a bride to be is a stressed-out bridezilla, it doesn’t have to be that way and if you take your time, follow all of the steps above and enlist the help of family and friends, you can plan the wedding of your dreams without losing your head.
